Indira Gandhi Single Girl Child Scholarship is a UGC scholarship scheme initiated with the objective to empower the girls of our country through the means of education. Moving ahead with this objective, the University Grants Commission introduced Indira Gandhi Single Girl Child Scholarships for the girls pursuing higher education who happen to be the only child of her parents. Under this single girl child scholarship, the selected candidates are offered financial assistance of INR 36,200 per annum at present.

With a view to assisting the meritorious students belonging to economically backward families in the State of West Bengal in pursuing higher studies, the Government of West Bengal introduces this scheme of giving scholarships at different levels of higher studies, at educational institutions in West Bengal. The 'Swami Vivekananda Merit cum Means Scholarship' Scheme was thoroughly revamped in the year 2016 to cover more students as well as to enhance the value of the scholarship significantly.

‘KANYASHREE’ is a conditional cash transfer scheme sponsored by the Department of Women Development and Social Welfare of the Government of West Bengal. This scheme started on 8th March, 2013 and is continuing till date. The mission of the scheme is to ensure the pursuing of education of all the teenage girls and delaying their marriages untill at least the age of 18 years.

Given that child marriage has a grossly negative impact on the lives of children, adolescents and young women, this scheme is expected to bring about improved outcomes in terms of their educational status, health (preventing infant and maternal mortality, for example) leading to the empowerment of the girls in the State and bringing about immeasurable benefits to the societyat large.

The ‘KANYASHREE’ scheme received National E-governance Award, 2014 – 2015 from the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Government of India. It also received international recognition from the UNO and the UNICEF.

The 14th day of August of every year is celebrated as ‘‘KANYASHREE DAY’ in West Bengal to promote the scheme throughout the state.

Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) is an innovative programme sponsored and managed by the Department of Science & Technology for attraction of talent to Science. The basic objective of INSPIRE is to communicate to the youth of the country the excitements of creative pursuit of science, attract talent to the study of science at an early age and thus build the required critical human resource pool for strengthening and expanding the Science & Technology system and R & D base. A striking feature of the programme is that it does not believe in conducting competitive exams for identification of talent at any level. It believes in and relies on the efficacy of the existing educational structure for identification of talent.

SC ST OBC Scholarship is run by the Government of India and the state governments to help students pursue their studies at different levels. The centrally-funded scholarships are sponsored by the Government of India and disbursed by different states while the state-funded scholarships are sponsored and disbursed by respective state governments only. An SC ST OBC Scholarship offers suitable financial assistance to SC/ST/OBC candidates at both pre-matric and post-matric levels of study.

To address the growing aspiration for education among the minority communities of the state and with a view to providing them more avenues for socio-economic and educational mobility by extending financial support, the State Government has decided to set up the"Aikyashree" – West Bengal State Scholarships for Minority Students in West Bengal to be fully funded from the State budget from the financial year 2019-20 onwards.

A Trust has been established to carry forward the cherished dream of the Late G. P. Birla, the renowned industrialist and philanthropist and to promote education, develop human resources and empower the youth of the Country. With this objective, the Trust proposes to grant Scholarships to meritorious students, male or female, from West Bengal, who have in the year 2020, passed class XII examination and have secured 80% marks or more from WBCHSE or 85% or more from ISC/CBSE and whose family income is less than Rs. 3,00,000/- per year and as such are in need of financial help to pursue further studies. For students who have secured 95% or more from WBCHSE or 97% or more from ISC/CBSE , maximum family income criteria may be relaxed in the specific cases at the discretion of the Trustees.
Further studies may be in any stream including Science, Commerce, Arts, Engineering, Medicine, Architecture, Lawor professional courses such as Chartered Accountancy, Company Secretaryship and Cost Accountancy if being pursuedalong withUnder Graduationdegree Course, in any recognized University/Institution in India. Scholarship amount, to be granted to a limited number of selected students, will be to cover Tuition Fees and Hostel Fees, [where applicable], subject to a ceiling of Rs. 50,000/- per student per year. The Scholarship will be granted students for one year at a time and to be continued upon satisfactory performance by the Student in the preceding year, as evaluated by the Trust, up to completion of the Course subject to a ceiling of 4 years, on yearly basis. Additional one time payment of Rs. 7000/- towards purchase of Books in 1st Year shall also be given.
For selection of Students for Scholarship, an Expert Panel, which presently includes Prof. Sumanta Basu of Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata and Dr. Rajib Das of Jadavpur University, Kolkata, will review the applications received and interview shortlisted prospective candidates. Interview may be scheduled in October 2020 or later when it is safe and practical to do so, date for which will be communicated to shortlisted candidates. The decision of the Expert Panel will be final. It is expected that financial support of GP Birla Educational Foundation will help produce future leaders of the country.
Eligible Students who meet the above criteria of merit, and need financial assistance for pursuing further studies, may apply in the prescribed Form available in application section.
