About the Department

Established in 1956, the Department of Bengali at Dinabandhu Andrews College, Garia, Kolkata, stands as one of the institution's foundational academic departments. Affiliated with the University of Calcutta, the department offers undergraduate programs in Bengali, encompassing both Honours and General courses. The curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of Bengali language and literature, covering areas such as classical and modern literature, linguistics, and cultural studies.

The department boasts a team of dedicated and highly qualified faculty members committed to academic excellence and student development. The faculty includes Associate Professors Dr. Amitava Roy, Dr. Mausumi Banerjee Saha, Dr. Dola Debnath, and Dr. Sharmistha Sarkar, along with SACT-II faculty members Sumita Karmakar and Avijit Pal.
